Evelynn Escobar-Thomas is a Social Media Manager and influencer.
YJ: What’s your current hustle?
ET: I’m the Social Media Manager at Undefeated Inc.
YJ: When did you realize you could succeed in your (current) respective field?
ET: Before I started working at Undefeated, I was branding myself through Instagram and other media platforms, which lead to opportunities outside of the 9-5 I had then. I stayed true to my vision and my message which ultimately placed me in the spaces I wanted to be. Back then I wasn't working in streetwear, but since I was a part of the culture it was an easy transition. I sort of feel like a bridge to and from the "culture".
YJ: What do you think is unique about your creative process?
ET: I’m a Virgo, so I've always been true to my “social self.” When it comes to work I look at content from a holistic perspective which, for me, means paying close attention to the data. If I’m collaborating with someone for my own brand their message, purpose, etc. has to align or I'll pass on the opportunity.
YJ: What would you say to someone who may think that their talent is not an ideal career path?
ET: Be comfortable with being uncomfortable. I'm someone who had an idea of where I wanted to go and be, but the ways I've gotten there are not what I could've imagined at all. I live my life with a fearless mentality and put myself out there, but at the same time it’s not all about me. The wisdom/message I have to share is bigger than me, and hopefully what I have to say will help others who come after me. Ultimately, when you’re operating for the right reason, everything connects the way it's supposed to.
YJ: What’s been your favorite sneaker collab thus far? And why?
ET: I most recently ran my first marathon in Chicago. As someone who has had asthma all their life the experience was life changing. I ran with the Nike Women Marathon Project and also had the opportunity to create content for Platform (Teen Vogue’s sister-Instagram site) along the way. I'm still kind of in shock that I ran 26.2 miles; it was an amazing experience.
YJ: What are you still looking to achieve?
ET: I would love to create something specifically geared towards women in the sneaker/streetwear industry. As we all know, Undefeated is a super masculine brand and it would be amazing to get an all female project out in my time here.
