Tia Swint is currently a product manager at Empire, an indie label located in San Fran. In her previous experience she worked with Nef The Pharaoh, Joey BadA$$+ more.

TA: What’s your current hustle?

LS: I am currently a product manager at an indie record label in San Francisco.

TA: Describe the difference between your 9-5 and your 5-grind?

LS: There isn't any difference. They intertwine everyday, all day.  Anyone who works in the music industry will tell you "it never stops."For now, I love it that way.

TA: Who gave you the most memorable career advice?

LS: This woman named Catherine Ado, she recommended me for my first job at Def Jam and told me the keys to success there were SPEED and DETAIL and that if I could be attentive enough to execute w/ haste, I'd be golden. I always remember that when procrastination looms or I consider neglecting that third proof read. haha sounds simple but it can be quite a challenge.

TA: Has what you’re doing now been a life-long interest?

LS: It has. Members of my family have managed and A&R'd some of my favorite artists -- Erykah Badu, Nas, UGK, Boosie etc. seeing them dedicate their lives to the perpetuation of another humans career was extremely inspirational. I've ALWAYS known that there was a team behind artists and being apart of that intrigued me at an early age.

TA: Did you ever think you wouldn't make it to this point in your career? What kept you going?

LS: I'm so early in my career, I don't even know how to answer this. Lets circle back in 5 years.

TA: If you could tell your younger self one thing about work ethic, what would it be?

LS: START WAKING UP EARLY NOW. Mannnnnnn, I could conquer the world if I were a morning person.

TA: What has been your favorite “project,” so far?  Why?

LS: This is tough. Its between Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise album and Joey Bada$$'s Devastated single. D.S.P, led by my mentor Caiaffa, was the first time I'd been given real responsibility on a roll out and immediately saw the results on the charts; that was Sean's first number one album. I'll never forget being apart of that. And Devastated was the first time I actually led marketing strategy on my own -- digital, video, running him around for radio and PR; all of it. Numbers didn't lie on this one either, his first gold single.

TA: Who are your 3 “must-follows” on Instagram?

LS: Damn... IG isn't even fun for me anymore so I'm less engaged. When I am on there its to keep up with friends and my artists( @stucknorris @a.chal @justicewearscoolpants etc) ... I randomly met this guy @dansolomito at an art show and he's IG goals, when I have time to dedicate toward curating my personal SM I'm copying his shit. lol I don't follow him but I think his page is the perfect blend of passion, art, personal and professional with a hint of social consciousness. Idk anyone else doing that right now but like I said.. I'm not super engaged.

TA: How would your inner circle describe your hustle?

LS: Eek, I don't know. *starts group chat.

Closing statements...

LS: The will to work must dominate, for art is long and time is brief. Make lists. Be kind. IRL > URL.
